Last week wasn’t too bad of a week for me. School wasn’t too overwhelming for the first time since the semester started, and even though we lost our game to Aurora on Friday night, we bounced back with two conference wins on Saturday.
I did feel pretty low though after our loss on Friday night. The same thing keeps happening to my team this year and it’s frustrating and disappointing. I don’t believe our problem is skill or endurance; it’s mentality and attitude. For whatever reason we seem to be struggling on a psychological level this year. As a whole we haven’t felt the “love” that a solid team feels. We’re not clicking with each other, in other words there’s no team chemistry. It’s almost been painful to play at times, because there’s so much friction between us. I don’t mean friction like we don’t like each other or we don’t get along as teammates, I mean our play isn’t smooth. It feels forced all the time. For some reason known only to God our core players just aren’t in the groove like we should be.
The varsity players sat down after Friday night’s game and had a little chat. We got things out in the open and we made some goals for ourselves as teammates and players. Our plan of action kick started the very next morning at MacMurray, and it could be seen that the promises we made to each other the night before were holding true.
Even Monday at practice we held each other accountable for things we said we were going to do. We face Westminster on Tuesday this week and it will be another test for our new plan of action. Tuesday is the only competition day we have this week, which is a bummer because I love game days. But I have so many papers due again, I am almost relieved we have such a light schedule. I’ve been interviewing people for two weeks to make various deadlines for the school magazine. I have three articles due by 9 p.m. Tuesday night, but the bus leaves at 3:30 p.m., plus I have class from 1:30-2:50, so I just lost about eight hours of work time. Yea…can I just say my time management skills are amazing.
I spent a little time in our university center Monday, which was the first time in a long time. I just sat down at a table in there. It was kind of weird, and I was there during lunch so it was busy. I’ve become sort of oblivious to what’s going on around campus; I have tons of other things on my mind. I do know the Twitter guy, Jack Dorsey, is coming to speak soon and that Homecoming is two weekends away. My roommate is in charge of all the Homecoming plans and she’s bringing a carnival to Webster this year. That will be a nice change of pace from the usual concert in parking lot “L” or whatever letter it is.
