Jamie Hebron's Softball Student-Athlete Blog #8

Hola Senores and Senoritas! How has your week been? Mine has been some what uneventful which may sound boring, but for a stressed out college kid it's actually good news. I'm really starting to feel like I'm catching up on homework instead of trying to get it done at the last minute. I'm even writing this blog at 10:00AM instead of the usual 10:00PM. Impressed? I thought you would be. I finished the 15-page paper on rabies and turned in the rough draft. I'm sure I'll have to make some changes before I turn in the final draft next Monday, but it's finished for the most part.

As for softball, it's coming to a close very quickly. I've been preparing myself for it to be over and as of right now I believe that I am ready. I know down the line I will be watching a group of kids play or a friend's team play and I will wish I were out there. I would love to be a coach some day; I think I have a lot to offer a young group of girls.

As for games, this past week we went 2-2. We had a somewhat surprising pair of losses on Tuesday, but of course that happens. Sometimes other teams which may not have the record that you do will come out ready to hit and ready to win, and some days good teams just don't have the hitting that they normally do. It often makes me feel like softball is a game of chance almost as much as it is a game of skill. Hitting is what wins ball games, but for that to happen more than one person on the team has to be having a good hitting day. Is it luck if five or six girls have a good day? I mean to get that many different individuals hitting well on the same day. I don't know what it is, but after being in a slump so long you start to feel like hitting is more about lucky days than talent or practice. I seem to hit well in practice, but I feel that I am yet to have a good solid hit in a game. The same thing happened in High School, I had my best year my Junior year.

Senior night is this coming Saturday. WOW! It came quickly! My family will be there and I'm excited. My other senior is from California, but a very good friend of hers is coming to stand by her I think. It will be a fun day.

Speaking of fun days, last Thursday was such an awesome day I would love to tell you a little about it. I guess it was mostly awesome because my boyfriend came down from Bloomington, Illinois, to spend the day with me. We had a nice lunch at the Chinese place and sat outside on a bench and talked and Thursday night we went to the College's performance of Alice in Wonderland. Our pitcher Lindsey played several parts in it and it was a WONDERFUL performance! Afterward we got ice cream and he headed home. It was great to spend some time with him and it was a beautiful day outside.

One fun, crazy thing did happen with the softball girls this week. If I could post pictures on here, I would show you a picture of our team crouched in front of the Wendy's drive thru with the employee at the window smiling. Saturday evening we were coming home late from our games at Blackburn and the inside of the Wendy's was closed, but the workers were nice enough to let the whole team order through the drive thru. It was a fun crazy experience. Also, one of the girls on the team has recently read my blogs and complained about not being mentioned, so I'm shouting out to Ashley right now, so she can say I put her name in the blog. She's a really awesome girl and I'm glad she's on our team...I'm glad all the girls are on the team. Maybe next week when I have more time I will talk more about the girls individually, but for now I have to go get ready for our games in Decatur.

Have a wonderful day and week and God bless you!

I'm stealing this week's quote from our assistant coach's facebook.
"When a gifted team dedicates itself to unselfish trust and combines instinct with boldness and effort, it is ready to climb."
