Stefanie Larson's Volleyball Student-Athlete Blog #4

We’re half way through the first term, which only means 4 weeks of school is over but saying “half way through the first term” sounds a lot better. Obviously I’m still feeling overwhelmed with school this semester. I’m just taking it day by day though to make it through each week and then relaxing at least one day out of every weekend. Well at least relaxing one day out of the weekend AFTER I get done at work. That is the one perk about working early mornings, I’m done working by 11 or 12, I’ve got a good five or six hours in and the whole day is still ahead of me.

I didn’t work this past weekend because we had a tournament in Bloomington, Illinois at Illinois Wesleyan. We lost both games there, which I credit to our still inconsistent play. We have time to get things together but it would’ve been nice to have a few more non-conference wins.

Even though Bloomington was about three hours away I didn’t mind the bus ride at all. I knew I was going to go home after our games were over and that made me happy. My grandparents got to come to my game along with my mom, dad, sister, brother and my brother’s girlfriend. It was nice to see everyone and spend a day at home. I’m not sure if I’ll be back there again until Thanksgiving.

As for the rest of our play last week, we won our first two conference games; Tuesday against Greenville and Thursday against Eureka, both away games. It felt good to get some wins under our belt, but not as good as it has in the past. I personally am disappointed in the way we are performing this year. It’s hard making the adjustment from the team we were my first three years at Webster to the team we are now, my senior year.

We have three competition days this week. One Tuesday and one Friday; home games finally, and then one at MacMurray. Yep…it’s back to Illinois.

Before I go, I actually have a little on-campus news this week. I found out from one of my professors that our new president is taking the H1N1 virus very seriously and if any students feel the slightest bit sick they don’t have to go to class and their teachers can’t penalize them for it. Seems like a good idea, but it also seems like that privilege could be abused. I hope a doctor’s note is somehow involved otherwise there will probably be a sudden H1N1 “breakout” when the word finally gets out to students.

10-4 Good Buddies,
