Coree Woltering's Men's XC Student-Athlete Blog #2

Another busy week has gone by. Monday is by far my busiest day of the week. I have class 10:30-11:20, 12:30-1:20, and 1:30-2:20. I have an hour break between my last class and practice. At 3:35 we have a team meeting then we do our weekly long run. I usually end up having 30-40 minutes to shower and eat after the run, before I go to Chemistry lab from 6:30-9:20. At 9:30 the first floor of my dorm has Bible study. Bible study gets over around 10:15. By that time, I am ready for bed. Tuesday morning practice comes too soon!

During the first Chemistry lab my partner and I were the last group done. We were so far behind that the professor had left, and the lab assistant was the only person there besides us. We were a good 30 minutes behind. This week we did much better. We were one of the first groups done! Hopefully we will be able to continue to be successful in completing our labs in a timely fashion.

Wednesday was the All College Hike. The All College Hike is a 5 mile walk to Camp Durley for a time of school bonding. At 9:30am the students of Greenville College will gather outside the chapel and they begin the 5 mile run/walk to the camp. As part of the cross country team I ran a little bit more than 5 miles.

At the camp there are many activities to do including volleyball and basketball tournaments, ultimate frisbee games, and if you really want to you can bring your fishing pole and go fishing. Inside the main building there are many booths set up, and the different clubs of the school try and convince you to join their club. This is also the time freshmen vote on their class officers. Lunch is served around noon or so, and then in the afternoon there is a chapel service. Students then have the rest of the day to hang out, or do whatever they want.

This Friday we are racing at Illinois State University. I am very excited for this meet. I love going to big meets, and this is definitely a big meet! Then 2 weeks from Saturday we will be at Louisville, Kentucky. I am excited to see how this meet turns out for us since this is our first 8k race of the season. This is the first year in a few years that Greenville is going to this meet, so it will be a new experience for all of us. For the returnees it will be a chance to see where we were compared to last year at this time. For the freshman this will be interesting to see how they do in their first 8k.

Last year was my first 8k, and it was...interesting. I remember finishing the race and wanting to never run cross country again. It definitely gets better as the season goes on. Good luck to everyone who is racing this week!

Well that’s all til next week,
