Its been a busy week since I last said hello. I am a person who loves schedules and repetition; I have yet to successfully implement my blog writing into my schedule, so it always seems like I am writing this last minute, but I will get the hang of it.
It's been a busy week, but very fun. I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, we finally got to feel what it was like to play softball outside on dirt and grass. The bad news was that we only got one day of practice outside and then we had a game. Our first game was against Missouri Baptist. In my expert opinion, which is no example of expertise at all, it was a good game for us to start with. I know what you're thinking, "Must have been an easy win to boost morale." Actually, it was quite the opposite. We lost both games by an embarrassing number of runs. Doesn't sound like fun does it? It wasn't fun, but it gave us a good place to start, we learned from our mistakes, and it showed us that we have things to improve.
I am proud to announce that we were more prepared for our next opponents. On Monday, March 8th we played Stephens College here in Greenville and pulled in our first two wins of the season. I was proud of the girls and the way they played. We have a number of young girls and I remember the issues I had with stepping up around girls that were older than me, but this year we are a very close team and I think all of the girls feel more comfortable around each other and that will definitely make us a stronger team.
Classes have been going well. I always hate that I have to miss class for games, but the teachers here are very helpful to athletes who must miss class. I'm keeping up and staying on top of things for the most part. I have two classes in which the largest portion of the grade is a research project due at the end of the semester. I find those most difficult to keep up on because I put other homework in front of them since they aren't due for a while. I am researching Rabies for one class as well as Eastern and Western Equine Encephalitis for another. Right now I'm waiting on a letter from the University of Illinois about vet school. I thought it would be here by today, but I'm patiently waiting.
I know last blog I raved about our special "team time" that we had scheduled for Thursday and I would just like to report that it was fantastic! All the girls had a great time. Everyone wrote some very meaningful things on our "put up" posters. We, the seniors, are getting them laminated and hanging them up in our dugout during home games. I think it will be a great way to keep the girls spirits high. At the end everyone wanted to read theirs aloud, so we took turns reading some of our favorites. I love seeing the girls laughing and having a great time together. We really are like a big family. Well, spring break will be upon us soon. Hopefully I will get another one of these in before we leave.
